The school board voted unanimously to place stamp of aeapeorel on all class banquets and plays citing interference with study and extra expense causing hardship. The proposal to suspend competitive games for the year failed with two in favor, two against, one absent.
Col A T Kerlin a prominent Devils Lake citizen died of apoplexy at the Great Northern hotelaged 54 his wife found him cold next morning. He gained notoriety last winter crossing the continent while ill to cast his ballot for the state electoral college.
Eugene Teutsch, a cement block manufacturer, lost four horses and his barn plus feed in a Tuesday evening fire at the corner of St and Cooper Streets. Firefighters saved the factory despite 800 feet to the hydrant, one team saved, and a driver risked his life. Insurance covered most losses. actual loss near five hundred dollars after adjustments.
The German liner Volturno bound for New York burned in mid ocean after an early morning explosion in the forward hold. The Carmania, 78 miles away, rushed to aid as seas raged at 20 knots. Lifeboats and lifeboat crews saved several, but many perished, and the Volturno’s captain was among those who evacuated last.

Alfred Engebretson sixteen year old and Louis Khokagdahl twenty four hired man were killed by lightning Thursday night near Berthold. Joh Engebretson father was struck and rendered senseless as the barn caught fire and nine horses two cows and equipment burned. Property losses run into thousands.
