The Independent reports surgeons in charge of Gus Anderson at Minot hospital concluded he died after an operation not from chloroform. Ether was used, deemed safer, and three surgeons with two nurses were present. The patient willingly faced grave risks and had arranged his own room, with only unfortunate circumstances blamed.
Descriptions point to an Irishman known as Duffy or Brady as the principal figure in the Sawyer case. John Reichert a longtime Ward county settler died Monday at his home six miles northwest of Minot after a yearlong Bright's disease illness. He was 59 years old. Funeral Friday from the Catholic church in Minot with burial in the Catholic cemetery. He emigrated from Germany in 1885, settled near Melrose Minnesota, then homesteaded in North Dakota. Survived by wife and six children Peter Joseph and Mrs Alvin Oeafa Mrs James Ryan and Mrs C C Clark of Issoula Montana and Mrs L D Colton of Burlington. One child Anna died in infancy. He was a devout Catholic and a respected farmer and neighbor. The Independent conveys sympathy.
