In Chicago on May 14 Victor Berger of Milwaukee won a seat on the Socialist Party national committee executive panel after four secret ballots. Arthur LeSueur of Minot, North Dakota was the opponent. resolutions protesting the war with Mexico were adopted.

Victory for State Tax Commission over Standing Rock cattlemen
In Mandan North Dakota the State Tax Commission won a long dispute over taxing cattle on Standing Rock Indian Reservation. Cattlemen representing major U S stock interests conceded the right of the state to tax citizens of the United States on the reservation and paid last year’s tax plus interest. The case involved cattle valued at about half a million dollars and could place nearly four million dollars of property on Morton County tax rolls.
