Lieut Hiatt Writes from Manchuria

The letter from Lieut W T Hiatt formerly a Great Northern despatcher based in Minot describes his voyage from San Francisco to Vladivostok Nagasaki and Manchuria. He notes sea travel hardships Japanese hospitality Russian frontier changes and impressions of Shimonoseki Mukden and Harbin while awaiting work with 116 of 126 men aboard and mentions a letter he sent home with details of the journey.

Torning Lad Dies of Scarlet Fever in 15th Year

Theodore Megreberg a 15 year old son of Mr and Mrs Andrew Megreberg prominent Torning township residents died Wednesday at 3 am after a short illness from scarlet fever. Interment at Soren church cemetery Torning. funeral services planned later. The death comes as a surprise to friends. He is survived by his parents and three brothers.

J E Shire Pleads Guilty in Officer Killing Case

J E Shire pleaded guilty to burglary at Makoti and was sentenced to four years in penitentiary. He and J A Parriott faced multiple charges connected to the murder of Kersey Gowin and Officer Pat Devaney after a armed confrontation with officers at a Rex room residence. State witnesses placed other suspects at the Maloney farm, including Buck and Ticknor, with Parriott possibly involved though not at the farm that night.
