A reader from Shell North Dakota argues that corruption and public plunder are inevitable, defending moral laws and Satan as needed for spiritual strength. The letter asserts political parties won t blame, wealth cannot buy happiness, and true joy comes from faith and innocence.
A. C. Hanson of Public Drug Co was honored by Gov. Eberhart as delegate to the First Minnesota Conservation and Agricultural Development Congress in St Paul March 16-19. Hanson could not attend due to other business. Progress veers through a slate of Progressive Republican tickets for June 1 primaries with names for U. S. Senators, Congress, Governor, and several state offices.
Horses and cattle fetch high prices across the region signaling farmer prosperity and faith in the future. Work horses commonly bring 175 to 200 dollars, while Milch cows sell from 50 to 70 dollars.
The DeMolay Commandery met Monday night in unusually full attendance. Temple degree work began at six, followed by a seven thirty banquet at the Temple, then the temple work concluded with W. W. Horton arriving from Williston to assist.

J A Erickson travels to Albert Lea March 28 for a surprise 50th wedding anniversary for Ellend and his wife, long respected residents. All children, seven sisters and two brothers will return home for the first time in years. Socialists of Ward county plan a county convention in Minot April 7 at 2 pm. Delegates should notify Arthur LeSueur, Minot, with speakers expected including Will Spear and others. The meeting aims to discuss socialism and the commission form of government for Minot, with a general discussion to follow.
The board reduced pay for most clerks by five to ten dollars monthly and cut five clerks from service, saving about $500 monthly. Deputies drops to $90, while first class clerks fall to $75, second to $65, third to $60 with two clerks discharged. Some clerks threaten resignation, urging reconsideration to retain capable staff.

Oscar Hammer son of farmer John Hammer living seven teen miles southwest of Minot shot himself in the heart with a revolver Sunday night at his father's house. The 26 year old, single man had recently moved from South Dakota last winter and lived with his father. An inquest was ordered by Judge Murray.

Politicians discuss how to approach a Burke county campaign with publication concerns. One candidate tells the Independent editor that spending on campaigning may be wasted if the county government is decided as a fixed reality before election. He favors canvassing the county but doubts organization will occur before November.

In Velva North Dakota March 21 a woman Mis e Hhora Odegard, returning from the dressmaker, was chased by a man over four blocks. She escaped into Finkenhagen’s residence as locals vow action to prevent a repeat. The intruder’s description is noted and Miss Adegard nearly died before rescue.
