Minot Fourth of July to Feature Free Ice Cream and Parades

Minot plans a full Fourth of July program with free ice cream for kids, a Ragamuffin parade at 11, street dance, games, and a big parade starting at the Elks Home at 10:90. Events include tug of war, eating contests, doll pageants, and a Minot Community Band performance, with prizes awarded for Play Day contests and a marching parade through Eastwood Park to Riverside.

Evald Kvam Former Minot Cashier Dies in Poland

Evald Kvam former Minot bank cashier died in Thorn Poland on June 21 as reported by Erik Ramstad president of the Scandinavian American Bank who wired for death particulars. Kvam aged 39 resigning two years ago to join YMCA work in wartorn Europe he served in Siberia and Berne embassies and aided Polish relief efforts. He was born in Norway and was a member of Blue Lodge and Eastern Star. His death caused grief among friends.

Human Fly Climbs to Top of Fair Store Building

A local novelty act features Jack Williams known as the Human Fly as he ascends the three story Fair store wall amid a large crowd. The event delays the 7 PM show for an hour to collect a donation, with estimates of a substantial sum raised.

Fire destroys farm home of Jesse Withers near Surrey

The Surrey rural home of Jesse Withers was burned down Monday morning when a kerosene stove ignited wallpaper. Mrs. Withers saved some chairs and a table. no insurance covered the loss. The couple, married last fall, will start anew at the Milton farm with support from neighbors and a cash collection already raised.

Northern Produce Employes Picnic at Mouck Grove

The Northern Produce Co. held a Sunday picnic at Mouck grove near the city attended by company members and families, totaling about one hundred. John W. Morrell oversaw the event as fifty local employees joined the gathering while the firm churns about 12,000 pounds of butter daily. Ten gallons of ice cream were served during the picnic.

Three Minor Men Accused of Car Stealing

Sheriff Scofield Deputy Jacobson and Chief Larry Byrne returned from Minneapolis with Gunner Dlaon Verne Cloure and Lionel Johnson who were arrested there and brought to Minot on charges of involvement in the theft of three cars. Tony Mung a Minot taxi driver is also held on related theft charges. The suspects drove a Hudson from Des Moines into Minneapolis two days before arrest. E R Sinkler is defending the three men.

Telelaget Holds Annual Convention in Minot this Week

The Telelaget, a society of South Central Norway natives, met at the Sons of Norway hall in Minot over Sunday to Tuesday with strong attendance. T. B. Etland of Stanley led the exercises and delivered addresses amid musical numbers. The Telemarken region is praised for its scenic beauty and cattle, with high quality stock and sires selling for thousands of crowns.

Train wreck near Benedict halts northbound service

The Minot to Bismarck train derailed two miles west of Benedict after overturning several cars. Ward Foster suffered serious injuries, others including women and infants escaped major harm as the train cars and track sustained extensive damage. Officials expect days to clear wreckage and restore service.

Minot Chautauqua Delights With Diverse Programs This Week

The Minot chautauqua attracts crowds with a cool auditorium and a bold two part program headlined by The Chicago Festival Quintette and Henry and Company. The schedule spans eight days with afternoon and evening shows from Lydel Festival Quintette to Ruth Bryan Owen and the Mallory Players. Season tickets offer best value at one dollar for children under twelve, and eighty nine cents for general admission per day. Local groups including the clergy American Legion and Normal School join forces with City Schools to support the event.

Arrest Of Geo Shanks With Cargo Of Gin Near Minot

Geo Shanks was arrested near Minot early Sunday by Watkina forces. Driving a Ford coupe, he carried five cases of gin and whiskey. He is held for court, and rumor says he made about 50 000 hauling whiskey from Canada. Local whiskey runs have declined from prior summers. Additionally M De La left for Drake to take over the Drake Register, owned by his brother Alphabet De La, bringing newspaper experience to the paper.

Mrs. R B Stafford Dies at 71 in Minot Residence

Mrs. R B Stafford aged 71 years 28 days died at home 802 Hiawatha St Minot after a two year illness. Funeral held at Presbyterian Church with Rev P W Erickson. burial Rose Hill. Survived by husband and two children D B Stafford and Mrs E F Voorhees, seven grandchildren. Two daughters preceded her in death. Consistent Christian affiliated with local Methodist church.
