The Independent reports Minot may become the Soo Division Point with the superintendent and dispatch staff located there. A large new foundry and shops would be built as the Soo lines expand, with the company owning 40 acres east of the city to support growth, expected within weeks.
A Burns club gathering at Wildwood Park last Thursday drew Scotch in- dians and ladies from across the northwest for an ideal day of rides, boat trips, and a long outdoor feast. Judge Murray spoke on Scotch history as Norman Black and Mrs Stevens delivered reminiscences and songs.
One of the largest crowds in the country attended a sale at the John Staff farm nine miles northwest of the city last week. Many visitors came from twenty to thirty miles by auto, drawn by curiosity and report of the event.
John Staff who killed his wife was moved to Towner on Wednesday morning by Deputy Sheriff Dan Doherty. John Piekos, jailed as a witness, was taken along, along with Knute Hagen, district court clerk. The entourage traveled by train and dray, with Staff unshackled, smoking a cigar as he faced a stiff case.
City editor Cooley will depart August 1 to join the editorial staff of the Grand Forks Times. His parents, Judge and Mrs. Cooley, reside at the Forks. He is noted for a strong news gathering record. the Optic vacancy remains unfilled.
John O'Brien the district's oldest resident died at home after an accident. He fell from a chair as he was preparing for bed several evenings earlier, striking his side on the bed and suffering a fatal injury.
Burke county seat dispute goes to Bowbells district court on July 28 to decide whether Lignite or Bowbells should host county government. Lignite argues it won the election two years ago while officials voided a precinct citing irregularities.
Howard Angelsbee aged 17 will be tried on a charge of a statutory offense. The complainant is a seven year old girl. The case will be tried at Lakota. He was apprehended at Sarles after being sought.

Dave Cohn, a known clothing merchant, was arrested Saturday on charges of obtaining goods under false pretenses. Bail set at 1500 dollars. bankruptcy petition filed. temporary receiver E B McCutcheon named. Stock inspected showed hundreds of empty boxes and only minimal merchandise with 24 suits and one pair of shoes remaining.
Misa Blanche Lynch society editor of the Optic will leave within a few pages for Victoria British Columbia to visit relatives for an extended period. Miss Lynch has done excellent work on the Optic and will be missed from the local newspaper circle. Mrs G Roy Ringo will accompany her to spend several weeks with her parents on the Pacific coast. Mrs W H Parker's new electric car has arrived and she is enjoying it.
The city commission plans to preserve the Main and Third streets pump with a widened sidewalk. The pump may remain in place with the walk adjusted and a path linked to the well. The well yields an abundant supply of the preferred water.
L Killian former Optic editor arrives from Minneapolis to visit brother in law J E McKeane. He represents grain commission merchants Winter Trisdell Amen Co and will spend several months in the state in their interests.
