Police found a large tobacco sack filled with counterfeit lead nickels and quarters in United States and Canadian money in Frank Reed’s possession after a drunken arrest. Reed used the coins at slot machines and is reportedly down about $50. attorneys say he can be prosecuted despite the coins being counterfeit on one side.
Owen Hecker says an Optic report of his robbery at Devils Lake Chau Tauqua on Bryan Day is badly mixed. He lost a pocket book with 70 dollars in bills and 1750 in notes. He saw no thief and only missed the pocket book when paying for entrance. Hecker, 83, claims the Optic’s local man has a fertile imagination.
Henry Auslander returns from Minneapolis with a revolutionary bakery machine the first of its kind in the northwest. The device, ready Friday, will mold loaves in a minute and replace three workers. He also buys a gas plant for lighting and possible cooking, plus five carloads of flour. Governor Van Sant tours Minot country and plans land purchases through Blaisdell Bird Co. Mrs. Alice Prass of Algona Pennsylvania visits Glenburn Berthold, buying land near Glenparn from her father J G Green.

Neil Harkins of Waukon Iowa was found dead in a barn three miles southwest of Berthold on Sunday about 2 pm. He had a rope halter around his neck and appear to have died days earlier. The body was moved to Minot after being taken from McJannet's morgue in Berthold. No inquest was held. He had checked into McQueen's hotel Thursday and later appeared unstable. He was about 35 and carried a receipt for $50 for a casket in his pocket.
The report notes a man from Waukon Iowa buried in a potter’s field Monday. Dr Ekrem suggests feeding prisoners bread water and salt to reduce jail populations, claiming it would dampen crime. He cites city examples where cold conditions drive minor offenses to stay warm.
Judge Goss ordered the arrest of juror C. E. Colvin for several hours Saturday over alleged suspicious behavior in the jury room. Colvin’s friends protest the action, while the judge defends it as justified. A heavy hailstorm three miles north of Minot after noon damaged a half mile wide grain stretch. At the Linha farm the grain lay down and some broke off while the garden suffered. G N Rowe, driving home, was struck by hail and his team scattered as the wagon box filled with hailstones.
