A sweeping rain totaling 1.44 inches fell in western North Dakota over Saturday night and Sunday, boosting later wheat oats barley and corn prospects. Farmers report no black rust yet though some leaf rust appears. Rye and early wheat gain from moisture while fields of rye ready for harvest risk breakage in soft, muddy soil. potatoes and corn show strong growth amid mild frost damage hints and widespread mud. Pioneer George Crowder Dies Sudden in Ross

Stanley July 7 George William Crowder an early Mountrail County resident died suddenly last night while driving to town. Born January 22 1852 in Ontario Canada he moved through St Thomas to Mountrail County becoming a leading Ross property owner. He was father to IL children and died of heart failure while in his car with two grandchildren nearby. the vehicle coasted to a stop against a small embankment.

Mont Tail County Men Free On Liquor Charge

Arne and John Johnson of Mount Tail county were tried in Stanley on liquor manufacture charges. Officers found a boiler with a small hole and copper pipe. Prosecution said the boiler cooked feed for chickens. defense claimed it prevented the lid from blowing off. The jury acquitted them.

Former Minor Residents Enjoy Los Angeles Function

Mr and Mrs M Due and Mr and Mrs Christensen hosted a large reception on Thursday evening for about thirty former West Twenty Ninth Street residents near Hoover Los Angeles California. Williston Telemarkings bring Nordic festival fans

A Nordvestrelag session held June 25 to 27 in Williston drew crowds in the Armory from morning until 4 a m. with performances by Hardanger violinists and the Skarning Concert Company. Minot Boosters Promote Pageant and Ward County Fair

School Boy Attacked by Timber Wolves Near Maryville

Fourteen year old Eugene Brunnett, son of Mr and Mrs B Brunnett, Maryville, was attacked by timber wolves between the school and home. Pack of wolves roams a vacant field near the route, with dens in brush patches. Children sharing lunch pieces fed the animals, while several wolves linger in groups of six or more.

Drowning Accidents Reported At Aby Lake And Bay

Nelson Nelsin a farmer from northwest Ape pam drowned at Kettle Lake while swimming on a launch tour with deck hands. He jumped overboard about twenty feet deep and was not seen until the body was recovered that evening. Coroner Stratton ruled the death accidental. Also Ray Hardwareman narrowly escaped drowning at Bay when G A Skiens was pulled to safety by Martin Johnson after sinking a third time while swimming with boys.
