RACES DRAW LARGE CROWDS AT FIVE DAY MEET
The opening day drew a wool sized crowd for the five day meet with fair skies and warm weather. Top horses from the northwest contested hotly led by Starter Woods. Castlewood won the 2:10 pace in three heats, while Red Cross took the 2:30 pace. Melrinaé won the four and a half furlong dash, and Spring Lies captured the six furlongs. Betting was brisk with many dollars changing hands.

Forest Muir Dies After Long Tuberculosis Battle
Forest Muir aged 23 son of Mr and Mrs Michael Muir long time Burlington residents died Sunday at home after over a year with tuberculosis. Twin sister Flossie predeceased him from the same disease. He spent months in California hoping to recover but returned home to spend his last days with family and friends. He was industrious honest and Christian and his death cast a pall over his community.

The funeral for Forest Muir took place at the Presbyterian Church in Burlington at 3 pm Tuesday with Rev. Lawrence of Minot officiating. He was interred in Burlington cemetery. An error in a prior article stated the death occurred Sunday evening. the correct time is 9 am Monday.

Secretary Garfield Visits Williston Irrigation Project
Secretary of the Interior Garfield inspected the Williston-Buford-Trenton irrigation works last Saturday with General Ballinger and other officials. Senators Hansbrough and McCumber and Representatives Marshall and Gorman attended, noting the new pumping stations beyond gravity. A reception at the courthouse and a banquet for 150 followed in the evening.

Geo L Stroup, prominent Glenburn farmer, lost his country home to fire on a Saturday evening when a lightning bolt struck the kitchen chimney and stovepipe. Edna Stroup, nineteen, was stunned but survived while neighbors rushed to aid. Loss estimated at 2500 with insurance lapsed. $300 raised locally as aid. A son was born to Mr and Mrs D L A Hall.
