Dr Webster Merrifield Dies in California

Dr Webster Merrifield longtime North Dakota State University instructor and president died suddenly of heart trouble at his Pasadena home. He resigned years ago and had lived in California since. He was celebrated for his work and the strong personal interest he showed in students and friends.

Hastings Widow Mary C. Hastings Dies at 54

Mrs. Mary C. Hastings aged 54 died at St. Joseph's Hospital Tuesday. She was mother of Mrs. Leslie Dunn who lived in the city and now resides in Brandford, North Dakota. The remains were shipped to the Hastings family home in Owatonna Minnesota for burial. Accompanied by Mrs. Les Me Dorm and H. M. Hastings of Hibnon Montana, a son of the deceased.

Crowe Charged With Attempted Abduction in Fargo

John J. Crowe also known as John J. McGuire was arrested in Fargo on allegations of attempting to abduct a sixteen year old girl employed in a local store. He allegedly wrote she could do better than six dollars a week and urged her to run away, a letter she gave to her mother. Crowe described as a professional gambler and an all around bad man.

Young Woman Injured at Minot Normal Laboratory

A student at Minot Normal School suffered a serious injury during a chemistry experiment when a hydrogen bottle wrapped in a towel broke, sending a glass shard into her nose between the eyes and requiring stitches. Two other students sustained minor injuries.

Minot Hosts Press Convention Delegates Tour City

Will E. Holbein secretary of the Association of Commerce and former state press association official left for Grand Forks to attend the annual winter convention and will press to designate Minot as the summer meeting site. J. H. McGarry of Alexander secretary of the association passed through Minot en route to the convention.

Well Drillers Choose Minot for Convention

The Well Drillers Association of North Dakota with 800 members will hold its annual convention in Minot next January. The decision was made at the Devils Lake meeting last week and members are expected to attend in large numbers.

Minot Pharmacist Dead and Local News Highlights

Minot pharmacist John Edgar died Monday afternoon in his brother W C Edgar’s apartments. He was 30, had worked in several Minot drug stores and at Glenburn. The remains went to Tracy Minnesota for interment. A town gossip column notes Minnesota’s land rents and crop yields, with comparisons to North Dakota. Sheriff McLean of Bottineau recounts a cold night mishap after a train failed to stop at Tasco, leaving him frozen but alive after aid from a nearby farm and snow treatments.

Fire destroys Parshall small shops amid strong wind

A Monday evening blaze consumed the C. J. Burth pool hall, the Par shall Post, and H. C. Free's barber shop in Parshall. A heavy northwest wind and snow-covered lumber piles kept the fire from spreading, though the town lacks any fire protection. The losses were limited since only small wooden structures burned.

Franks Peters Reports Severe Weather and Poor Harvest

Chas Peters, farmer north of the city, returns from Frankfort Illinois after five weeks to relate extreme cold and rain. Minois farmers failed to raise a good crop last year as corn rotted and soft. Thomas Baker Jr., Fargo insurance man and noted Mason and former speaker, died Monday at age 57.

Dr Wheelon opens new offices in the opera house block Room 10 phone 674 after losing all his effects in the recent fire. He has gone to Minneapolis to buy a complete bow equipment.

Piper Howe Lumber Co Plans Large City Office Warehouse

Piper Howe Lumber Co will build a two story brick office and warehouse on their city lots with trackage along the Great Northern and Soo railways. The $25,000 spring project will support a 40 by 140 foot building. Local payroll and yard operations expand as the company makes Minot its permanent headquarters.

Minot Commerce group forms new membership drive

The Minor Association of Commerce elected officers at the office of the Assoc in Minot. A new membership drive was approved with three captains selecting five men each to form the Membership Getting Team. The plan includes secular meetings every two weeks and a goal to recruit many new business and professional members in the coming year.
