Barn Burn Kills Hay Chickens on Nels Selfors Farm
A barn on the Nels Selfors farm seven miles north of Minot burned Wednesday night January 4. Selfors returned from Minot and, after misplacing a cow, set a lantern on the feed trough. While searching for the cow the barn was consumed, likely from the lantern or an overturned lantern by estray horses. Loss includes 70 tons of hay and straw, two harnesses, tools, about 100 chickens, with total damages near 5000 dollars and only partial insurance. two nearby granaries were saved.
