Worst Blizzard Ravages Nation's Northwest in Years

A severe blizzard Tuesday blanketed the Northwest with heavy snow and biting wind, freezing roads and delaying trains. Two men were killed near Kenmare when a train struck them while inspecting downed wires. A wreck occurred near Minot as trains collided while weather hampered operations. no injuries were reported beyond material damage.

Insurgent Signups Shape Thawed County Legislature

Senator Wallin and Representative Lee returned from Bismarck after an adjournment to Jan 13 as insurgent strength grows in both chambers. Governors message backs Minor Normal School appropriation. Insurgent lists include Elken, Gilbert, Johnson, Whitcher, Ellingson, Syverton, Duncan, Gibbons, Steele, Welch, Garden, Wallin, Putnam, Bessessen, Davis, Kretachmar, Welr, Thoreson, Plain, Gronwold, Willams, and Steele. Senate caucus confirms insurgent control with Burdick to name committees, aided by a five member advisory panel.

Robbed Grocery Store and Fire at Kenmare

Robbery occurred at Fred Ossenbrink's grocery with 50 five cent cigars, chewing tobacco, and small change taken. A window breach via stick enabled entry. A fire at Pete Beertelson's Kenmare store was narrowly contained, stock damaged by water but saved. Commissioner Sanders notes rapid exit. Sheriff Kelley appointed Schalaberg as deputy. county board in session to set official papers for Ward county and reduce number of papers from five to three. Treasurer-elect Weatherwax to qualify after bond. routine business includes gasoline for the county electric plant. Minot Hide and Tanning Co. ships three cars east and unloads a car of salt.

Charles Campbell Perishes in the Storm

Charles Campbell, 38, single, frozen to death ten miles southwest of Des Lacs on his return from a hay delivery. He unhitched his horses, wandered in a storm, and was found near a track the following Saturday. Remains shipped to Minot for burial. sister Ina Campbell of Frederickson, New Brunswick, notified. Ward County Agricultural Fair Plans Annual Meeting

The Ward County Agricultural Fair Association announces a meeting at the Commercial club rooms in Minot at 2 PM on February 8. Officers for the ensuing year will be elected and other business will be transacted. Farmers are especially invited, with floor privilege to discuss plants and premiums for the 1911 fair. New members pay $2 and annual dues are $1.00.

Minot Businessmen Push Permanent Farmers Convention

Minot businessmen plan a permanent farmers convention modeled after the Fargo Growers gathering. A committee will coordinate with the Grain Growers meeting in Fargo January 17–19 to shape the local organization. The Institute may last two days with dinners and possible entertainment, aiming to boost farm education and attract city support.

Hanley of Mandan to be next House speaker

J M Hanley of Morton county won the speaker nomination on the fifth ballot in a statewide caucus. Hanley defeated Hommes 68 to 13 after Sorlie Ployhar Frame and Price of Fargo were eliminated in earlier rounds. Hanley, long tied to stalwarts, is seen as satisfactory and loyal, with strong militia and national guard ties.

Fauchald buys Gordon stock in lump sum settlement

The stock of Gordon Bros held by a Trustee was purchased by Fauchald Bros last Friday morning. Five bidders appeared for the stock when offered on a Thursday, but three dropped out. The Trustee finally sold the goods for a lump sum, with Fauchald Bros paying between eleven and twelve thousand dollars, about sixty cents on the dollar. Gordon Bros resume business at their old Optic block stand, offering tailoring, shoe repair, and loans on articles of value. John Drummond of Burlington returns from Grand Forks after holiday visit with son W. H. Drummond.

Masonic Ball Planned by De Molay Commandery

Invitations will be issued within a day or two for a Masonic ball to be given under the auspices of De Molay Commandery at the Masonic Temple the night of Jan. 13. Sir Knights will appear in uniform. All Masons and their ladies will be invited. Committee on arrangement is Major Person, C. A Fisher and A. J. Brunner.

Surrey Boy in Serious Condition After Second Surgery

Milo Burne ten year old son of J H Barns of Surrey underwent a second operation this morning for appendicitis. He remains in a very serious condition with fears he may not recover. Mrs Alex Scarrett is reported at her home on Belyes avenue.
