About 200 business leaders attended a large Minot banquet at the Elks Home hosted by the Minor Association of Commerce with music, readings, and a dramatic skit. Orrin M. W. W. Gove aged 82 died New Year’s morning at 5 o clock at his son in law George Hartley’s home in this city. Remains were shipped Wednesday to Velva North Carolina for interment. Gove farmed nearby and retired. his wife predeceased him five years ago. Mrs Hartley is his only child.
Fred E. Jewett, trusted for four years at Stone-Ordean-Wells Co., advances from office position to replace John Sveen as office manager who left to join Farmers' Trust Co. Jewett’s promotion is noted as well deserved. Minot Department Store big sale begins today with across-the-board price cuts and a featured comic story in the issue.
Paul V. McCoy a prominent Minot businessman married Miss Rose Smith of New York City in a Chicago ceremony on Saturday. They plan travel to Texas before returning to Minot to live in the Anderson block. McCoy’s ventures include McCoy Department Store, McCoy Furniture, McCoy Drug, Taylor Drug, Winters Jewelry, and interests in Newlyn Drug Co. The Independent extends congratulations.

Joseph Gilman Hawes seven year old son of Mr and Mrs C B Hawes of Garden Home was fatally kicked by a horse Saturday and died hours later. He was sent to check on the horses after a disturbance was heard. The father found him unconscious in the stall with multiple injuries and a crushed skull. he did not regain consciousness to explain the accident. Ski Tournament Feb 7 and Minot Ski Club scaffold work begin in hills north of the city as noted jumpers to participate. Minot Grocery Co names changes with A G Jacobson promoted to general supervisor for territory including Minot Williston and Montana and Fargo areas. J C Conlan to general manager of the Minot house. Jacobs is moving to manage Minot operations. Orrin M Pierce remains credit man after changes.
