Both men are seen working in plain clothes, buckling snow and boosting morale as railroad crews double their efforts. A fireman learns the value of leadership when Allen helps carry coal to extend the journey.
Rice Lake rancher Ed Knudson says a Minot newspaper overstated events after two Ryder business men visited his property seeking shelter. He confirms they arrived, were offered horse stalls and meals, and were directed a half mile away to family quarters with sleeping space.
Three men perish in snow drifts near Ambrose and White Earth during a harsh blizzard. J Schultz of Ambrose died en route from Flaxton after becoming lost in cold conditions. Lewis Johnson, six miles north of Ambrose, also perished in the storm while returning home. Peter Lakken, seven miles northwest of White Earth, left his sled and coal load to walk home after the storm. his body was found sixteen rods from C P Wefald's property. Lakken leaves a wife and six children, family described as destitute.
