Minot Arcade theatre owners build a thriving front

R. H. Emerson and son L. A. Emerson open Minot’s Arcade on a brick stone faced front. The two story building houses moving pictures and vaudeville with an upstairs office space leased to Dr. Larson and Dalquist Land Co. The theatre features modern amenities, a fire safe structure, and varied acts with a new artist lineup weekly.

New Year 1908 Arrears Rule Cuts Off Subscriptions

The Independent announces a new ruling effective January 1 1908: weekly papers with subscriptions a year or more in arrears will be cut off without notice. Delinquents may face one cent stamps per week for postage until paid. Subscribers urged to bring accounts current, pay in full, or prepay.

Banquetted Newspaper Men At Minot Hotel Stag Social

Banquetted newspaper men and Minot Paper Co. hosts held a stag social at the Morrill hotel on Christmas Eve for city printers. About fifty attended with a fine repast and speeches led by Sam Clark on The Printers Union and Why I Love It. Prince Otto spoke on The Value of Sauer Kraut as a Food. Other locals, including Harry Mitchell of the Commercial club and McGovern, attended. Harry Kelley performed a dog dance and the crowd praised the Minot Paper Co. promoters. A note of sadness recalls beer and barley price rises and possible use of Granite Spring water. The Independent editor received a large turkey from Marshall, Missouri.

Minot banks flush with currency as easing spreads

Currency supplies in Minot banks are ample and shipping east daily. Banks expect reciprocity if needed and business returns to a cautious but normal pace after fears of financial disaster. In separate notes, Si W. E. Kelley is sentenced to two years for grand larceny in Cando. The Williston Daily State suspends, while the weekly State continues. Bro Ben remarks on Democratic subscriptions. Misat signs a one day weekly closing rule until September.
