Prairie Fires Ravage Mi Not Area Cause Heavy Damage
In Mi not area on Saturday and Sunday at least four prairie fires caused thousands in damage. Strong winds and a week without rain fueled the blazes burning trees, barns, hay and livestock buildings. Notable losses included 700 cottonwood trees, 100 cherry trees, 500 willows, J N Johnson pasture, and A S Olson’s barn with calf and grain. Firefighters battled flames near Surrey and Minot, with one man praised for heroic efforts. A local physician Dr. Johnson recently moved to town to start a private practice. Del Benton was arrested for passing a counterfeit five dollar bill on the G N line in Tagus.
