N Davis defeated socialist candidate Howard Elliott by 40 votes in a 954 vote tally to become president of the Minot City Commission. H C Bycrum and Dr C Dorman were elected to the commission, with L Lynch elected police magistrate and J F Durke elected city justice. The result followed a divisive campaign amid Socialist opposition and ward voting patterns.

The board approved appointing a janitor for next year starting June 1 and authorized deducting any work omissions from the janitor’s salary. The motion, seconded by Mr. Scofield and carried, also authorized engagement for janitorial duties per rules. Grace Aldrich was elected to her present position for next year at salary, as moved and carried.

The board also elected Miss Anna Tutle of Spring Grove and Miss Josephine A. Kaus of Cloquet as teachers for next year, and then adjourned.

Turner & Sons of Grand Forks secured the interior contract for the normal school under construction in the city. Bidders from Minneapolis Stillwater and Fergus Falls competed, but Turner & Sons offered the winning price around five thousand dollars. The work, to be overseen by D A Dinnie, should start promptly and be finished this fall. Wheat: Marquis seed wheat carload shipped from Indian Head, expected Saturday, with strong interest in Marquis wheat and wide sowing anticipated in the area.

Daring Schemes Save Dayton Flood Victims
Dayton rescuers devised two daring methods to reach marooned sufferers. Rowboats ferried those in danger while others dangled along ropes between poles to avoid swept currents. National Cash Register workers set up cables to reach trapped people as crowds were pulled to safety. Automobiles were used to evacuate the rescued.
