Jesus as Interpreter and Easter Plans At Local Baptist Church

Mr. R. W. Vankirk presided at the Newton Baptist Church last Sunday with a theme Jesus the Interpreter. He urged the need to understand both sides and noted Jesus as the true interpreter between God and man. A Sunday school committee was named to prepare an Easter concert. Rev. Cary spoke on relying on God's strength to conquer temptation and urged believers to claim spiritual power in all areas of life.

A Fine Residence On Washington Avenue Shown To Advantage

The Vaughn house on Washington avenue, built by Griffin, is praised for its graceful veranda curves, cresting, stained glass, and harmonious interior frescoes. Oak finishes with a cherry dining room, a carved mantel, and tiles surround the fireplace. Stained glass is from Redding Baird & Co, Boston. frescoing by T. G. Hetherington of Boston. The Vaughns plan to move from Malden to Winthrop in April.

Memorial exercises for Longfellow anniversary at high school

On Wednesday March 24 the high school held a Longfellow anniversary program inviting the Chautauqua club and friends. Pupils recited quotations from his works and performed songs like Stars of the Summer Night. Forty scholars attended with one absent, praised for thoughtful, well prepared presentations.

Winthrop Sewer Debt Hearing Sedges City Council Backing

The Winthrop drainage hearing continued on a petition to borrow up to 30000 to fund a sewerage system at Ocean Spray and Great Head. Residents and officials debated costs benefits and town vs nonresident tax impact as testimony from doctors merchants and residents illustrated sanitation and property implications.
