J J McAlester a life long Democrat and first Democratic marshal in the Indian Territory outlines his career from 1860 in commerce cattle farming and coal prospecting. He cites loyalty to labor unions his public service and detachment from coal interests while pledging to uphold laws and duties if elected railroad and corporate commissioner.
William J. Bryan, guest of honor at Maine Democratic club’s ninth annual banquet in Portland, says the party will avoid experiments and unite for the campaign. He reflects on the last presidential race, praising the candidate he supported and stating there will be no more experiments. Separate report from Gutrie, Oklahoma notes a temporary injunction blocking governor and convention officials from issuing election proclamations affecting Woods county and related counties.

J W White of Centralia enters the race for county clerk as a Democratic candidate. A hardware man by trade, he has run a successful business and is a Monroe County Missouri native who moved to Centralia seven years ago. He is described as able and of integrity, with strong hometown support and belief he would be an efficient clerk if elected.
Abraham 5 Meeks died at his home near Vinita on April 16, 1907. Born in Illinois September 27, 1851, he moved to the Indian Territory early and lived there ever since. He leaves a son, five daughters, a mother, a sister, a large network of relatives and many neighbors and friends who will miss his helping hand.
Rev J B Pershing and his wife left for Joplin to attend a Missouri State Association of the Congregational church meeting. In the absence of Kansas City mayor Beardsley Pershing will deliver the annual address and the association may act on building a new church in Vinita.
Robert F. Nix born in Delaware district in 1874, a Cherokee citizen with a well improved farm in township 2 range 18. He attended Cherokee Male Seminary Tahlequah and Northern Indiana Normal Valparaiso, completing a commercial course, taught four terms in Cherokee nation, and is a reliable Democrat with bookkeeping skill.
Washington reports Secretary Gatefield will study Quapaw conditions before acting on their request to be freed from federal control. R G Valentine, aide to Indian Commissioner Leupp, departed for the Quapaw nation to conduct the inquiry. Lee Howe of Dodge, longtime friend of OC S Avery, visited Vinita to subscribe to the Weekly Chieftain.

A Vinita meeting of the Decoration Day committee outlined the observance with Mrs. John Swain in charge of decorating the opera house donated by Joseph J H Butler. Mrs S Talsall leads the flowers and Mev I D Wilson handles music for May 30 celebrations. Committees will visit business leaders to close shops for the event and preparations shift from court to the opera house with use donated for the occasion.
