Charles B. Hunter, chairman of the Republican State Committee, calls a meeting for January 8 in Guthrie to discuss the time and place for the State Convention selecting delegates to the Republican National Convention. The primary versus convention method will also be discussed.
In Goobhire on December 27, Attorney General West states under Oklahoma law only towns with populations over 2,500 are entitled to two justices of the peace. If two justices exist in a town, one is elected for the town and the other for the adjoining township, with the town jurist retaining exclusive jurisdiction in cases arising there.
A three story wholesale drug firm in Muskogee Oklahoma, the Whitelow Williams Wholesale Drug Company, caught fire on December 27. Firemen struggle to contain the blaze as it remains the only wholesale drug business in the eastern part of the area. Local authorities and witnesses describe efforts to salvage remaining stock and assess the damage.
Guthrie Oklahoma December 27 Friends of M L Turner of Oklahoma City say he will enter the race for United States Senator against Senator Gore in two years. Turner was a Democratic primary candidate last summer when Gore and Owen were nominated and, though he entered only six weeks before the election, he received more than 10 000 votes.
Estella residents recall a festive Christmas gathering at Trotter schoolhouse with Hunt Clifton and Mrs Clifton in attendance. Mrs Hunt has returned to Chelsea for the holidays while locals praise the event and plan a New Year’s Eve box supper. Ollie May Williams is ill with suspected scarlet fever.
Reports from Henryetta Oklahoma describe nights of fear of armed bands from nearby Muskogee areas. Despite armed citizens and警戒, no attack occurred, though rumors and patrols intensified as authorities tried to keep order after the lynching of James Garden. Five armed negroes were arrested nearby and communications sparked alarms until torpedo blasts near the town were identified as the cause of panic.
Kansas City financiers largely oppose the new deposit guarantee idea being discussed after Oklahoma adopted it. The plan would tax banks to fund guarantees for depositors if a bank fails, with the state only handling collection and disbursement. Critics warn it taxes strong banks to aid weak ones and may spur unsafe competition among lenders. Governor Hoch is urged to convene a special session to consider a Kansas version.
The First Congregational Church of Vinita held its 28th annual meeting with officers and reports discussed. Rev J E Pershing served as pastor, with Mrs Rebecca M Swain as clerk and J H Parker as treasurer. A push for a new church edifice was emphasized as the gathering closed with a surprise gift of a dozen sterling tea spoons for the clerk on her 28th wedding anniversary.
The Baptist Church announces Sunday will mark the end of the present pastorate with all services at usual hours. Everyone is cordially invited to attend, signed Hough F. Moore, Pastor.
State of Oklahoma Craig County probate court issues notice of sale of real estate for guardianship of minors D. and Nita Cornatser. A public auction will be held January 4 at 1 20 p m at the county courthouse door to sell land described in the order of December 1907 with payment terms of one third cash one third in one year and one third in two years. The guardian assigns authority to execute the sale and convey title upon court confirmation.
