Ledbetter Kimsey Contest Appeals to Supreme Court
The case over Musio ste police chief between J. F. P. Ledbetter and Charles Kimsey has been appealed to the state supreme court. At a 1908 city election under Brook bill procedure Ledbetter, a deputy marshal and “house finisher,” was elected chief of police but Kimsey challenged the result seeking possession of the office. A later election again favored Ledbetter though Kimsey objected to disfranchisement and an altered precinct order. the district court upheld the earlier ruling. Ledbetter now contends the election board acted legally and regularly.

President Taft disclosed to senators a roster of men under consideration for the United States Supreme Court. Hughes as probable chief justice leads a list including Judge Gordon Russell of Texas, Judge William Hook of Leavenworth, Judge Waited of the eighth circuit, and Judge John Pollock of Topeka United States district judge.
