Katy's Claim Not Valid Says Court
Washington December six the 2 million dollar claim of the Missouri Kansas Texas Railway Company against the United States was denied when the court of claims sustained the government demurrer to the railway petition for reimbursement for every alternate section of land along its lines through the Indian Territory now part of Oklahoma. The company alleged Congress promised to convey to it simple title to ten sections on each side of the line through Indian Territory and Kansas, but many lands were deeded to Indians and later granted to the railroad. The court ruled no state intervention rights, the suit thus ends with the government not liable. The case drew political stir as Governor Hoch acted to aid the railroad, causing protests and political backlash.
