Guthrie Oklahoma December 1 proposed Taylor election bill would require a poll tax certificate for towns over five thousand and registration in rural areas plus an educational reading requirement for the constitution. The bill also proposes expert ballot counters to start at 1 o clock on election day for early returns.
Henry Holderman and Rosso Torrett left Saturday night for Bolland Oklahoma after a telegram to the Sheriffs office reporting a store broken into, the safe dynamited, and about 200 dollars in cash stolen. Bolland lies about ten miles from Fort Smith. No word has been received from the men. An Indian recently tried to deposit 250 with the Shawnee News, mistaking it for a bank, an embarrassment of riches for the paper.
Secretary of State William Cross, recovering from illness, expects to resume personal charge of the office in about two weeks. Assistant secretary Leo Myers currently handles daily duties as Cross convalesces and regains strength.
Mrs Stan Rolkowski of Spalding Wisconsin accidentally burned her savings when a stocking caught fire. She had fed 212 in 5 notes and 10 bank notes into the blaze, funds saved over months from a loan at Menominee Michigan. The piece also notes petitions from Bartlesville Chickasha Muskogee and Claremore for first class city status.
Fate Laxton was shot in the back near his home at Buck coal mine Friday. After he fell multiple shots to the head ended his life. Mrs Laxton identified the killer as a stranger black man, but no arrest had been made by Saturday morning. Laxton had no known enemies.
Judge Ralph E Campbell names Chas B Rogers of Vinita Master in Chancery for the United States Circuit Court in this district. The appointment honors Rogers, notes his law practice and Republican leadership, and signals growing federal business in Indian Territory. Rogers will divide time with Muskogee duties but keep a Vinita office and soon add a partner. Also, notice of public sale for impounded stock set for December 7 1907 at the Vinita city pound with redemption rights.
First District Court met this afternoon at 1 30 with Judge Campbell presiding. The day was spent docketing cases and filing motions. The Petit Jury will be summoned to appear today for continued proceedings.
