Omaha reports Loris Higgins who murdered W. L. Copple and his wife near Rosalie Nebraska on May 12 was lynched by about twenty men at Bancroft. Sheriff Young transported the prisoner from Thurston County. locals warned of resistance, then Higgins was hung from a tree after being taken from the sheriff. Higgins showed radical religious change after arrest.
Doc Barnes a 86 year old Black man living eight miles east of Tuisa killed his wife by sticking a pick into her head while she slept. He had planned the crime, placing the weapon under the bed, then fled to the corn field and remained at large. Mrs Barnes died two hours later.
Texarkana Ark Aug 26 William Hunter Frank Hunter and Andrew Brown arrested and jailed on a murder charge in the case of Stubbard Wheeler whose body was found in Red river southeast of the city. Wheeler’s brother M E Wheeler swore out the warrant claiming foul play and a hearing is set for this week. United States District Attorney Embry filed a federal petition in Bold, Oklahoma, against the Rock Island railroad charging violation of shipping rules that limit transit time without food or water for stock. The suit cites January 30, 1907, shipments from Colbert & Co of Tishomingo to Bald, hogs in transit seventy nine hours with no sustenance, marking the first legal action to enforce the regulations. Charges similar to those filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission last year preceded this move, with cattle interests in the territory backing the action.
