Guthrie Oklahoma August 25 United States marshal John J Abernathy wrestled a revolver from local attorney John Ramsey at the federal courthouse in a dispute over a $25 note signed on a wedding day. Ramsey had threatened retaliation after the note remained unpaid and Ab ernathy says he warned him earlier this morning.
A five year old incubator baby once featured at the St. Louis World's Fair was placed in the custody of the Kansas City juvenile court clerk. Judge Porterfield postponed the habeas corpus hearings until Monday as Mrs. Barclay seeks to keep the child away from Topeka while the state supreme court has ruled the mother is legally J. R. Gentry and Mrs. Bleakley face trial. The case involves two concurrent writs and custody disputes amid Topeka kidnapping charges. Meanwhile the Presbyterian Missionary Society met at Mrs. B N Ratcliff's home for its regular monthly session.

At Carthage Missouri Aug 26 during the final running race at Knell fairgrounds 6000 spectators watched Enterprise ridden by Wagner and Phil Arnett ridden by Fred Tucker 19 of Nashville Tennessee collide on the curve. Tucker was thrown headfirst and died from injuries. Wagner escaped unscathed. Ambiguity remains about the exact sequence of events and the fatal impact on Arnett.
Pawhuska Oklahoma August hearing set for Mrs Nettie Brown and stepson Pete Brown on murder charges in the disappearance and death of her husband. She proclaims innocence, alleges no affair, and defends Pete while detailing events from Bliss and Pawhuska, with county jail confinement and threats by local farmers noted.
Victoria I. C. Aug. 2 The Makura reports the Norwegian bark Errol struck Middleton Reef on June 18 and 17 souls died before five survivors were plucked from the wreck. Captain Anderson and the second mate drowned while making a life raft as hunger and thirst felled the crew. The captain’s wife, fearing cannibalism, drowned her four children and then herself, leaving five survivors to endure wreck conditions.
A collision on the track sent two athletes sprawling and bleeding, with Tucker suffering suspected brain concussion. Medics treated him as athletes and crowd noise momentarily paused the event as referees and band members restored order amid the incident.
Pinkornfield California August 26 Two brakemen and the engineer died when a freight train on the Southern Pacific railway wrecked on a steep grade near Mo Nave after the brakes failed and the train ran away. The tragedy occurred early today as the crew attempted to control the runaway train.
Seattle prepares for President Taft visit during the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition on September 30. Governors from Idaho Oregon Washington Alaska and Premier McBride of British Columbia join a grand reception with speeches, a parade and a Washington state hall reception. Taft arrives September 30 and departs October 1 after an eventful day of honors.
