Oyster Bay L I Aug 2 Roosevelt announced his adoption of the Carnegie spelling reform for all official White House documents and his messages. He instructed the public printer to use the revised list of 300 words from the Simplified Spelling Board led by Brander Matthews. The changes mainly affect past tense endings and certain spellings such as tho thore altho center theater motor etc. The president says this is not a revolution but adoption of improved spelling now widely used in New York schools.
