Deficiency Shown in Oklahoma Prison Maintenance Fund
Guthrie Oklahoma August 13 The report by Victor B E Harlow secretary of the board of public affairs Hugh Gerner deputy state examiner and inspector and Carl Rice deputy auditor to a joint board session shows only 6044 27 left in the state penitentiary maintenance fund at Mc Alester with 23000 in approved claims outstanding for the year ending June 30 1909 A deficiency of 16056 73 will require next legislature action A special committee recommends paying 5118 to cover prison employee costs from the small balance and 2615 86 to other classes while the balance awaits deficiency appropriation The committee notes about 50000 has been paid from the construction fund some items should have been charged to maintenance It suggests charging 20 cents per prisoner per day against construction during ongoing work and that guards or workers be paid from construction funds during such periods
