Drunk farmer shoots stepdaughter and wounds wife near Nowata

Crazy with drink, Childers a farmer twelve miles northeast of Nowata shot and killed his stepdaughter Lena Atwood and fatally wounded his wife on Monday afternoon. He is arrested at Wowta and will face a preliminary hearing before Gillully, then be brought to the federal jail in Winita. Relatives say he had a longstanding drunken spree and may have turned violent insane before the killings. His wife likely cannot survive. Childers attempted suicide after the crime and has a brother named Charles in Coffeyville.

Courtney Whitney Held for Murder in Bartlesville

Courtney Whitney charged with the killing of James R. Edwards in Bartlesville on July 2 faced a preliminary hearing yesterday before Commissioner Gillully. He was bound over to the grand jury without bail and will be held in the Vinita jail.
