Electron microscope view entertains Cub Run students
Cub Run Elementary students received a magnification experience with an electron microscope. The device, obtained by Challenge teacher Brian Lux from a personal source, lets students see common items like a rubber eraser and a house fly at high magnifications, transforming familiar objects into science fiction-like images.

Forest Knolls auction in Shenandoah yields top bid
At noon last Friday October 25 an auction for the Forest Knolls Subdivision off U S 340 in Shenandoah drew about a dozen people. The BB T Bank held title to the 35 undeveloped lots and 19 plus acres in phases one to three. Auctioneer Bill Walker of Roanoke led Walker Commercial Services with a $20 000 refundable deposit and the sale of the entire package.

Halloween Celebrations Draw Elkton Residents at Local Halls
In Elkton two Halloween events drew families and friends the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292 and the Elkton Area Community Center hosted a pair of parties. The VFW event featured a Jack O Lantern contest with two dozen carved pumpkins. A karaoke contest and a costume contest added to the festive night. Judge Wanda Lam selected winners as local traditions continue. The event honors Bob Morris, who died in 2010, with Angie Rakes noting the tribute as organizer JoeAnne Morris leads the effort.

Blosser Insurance Wins October Business Appreciation Award
The S Burt Blosser Insurance Agency received the October Business Appreciation Award from Elkton Downtown Revitalization Corp and the Elkton Town Council. Councilman Joshua Gooden read a letter from EDRC President Charlie Dean praising Blosser for service to the community and noting the 2001 purchase of the Spotswood Avenue building. Dean highlighted Blosser’s extensive civic involvement across schools, Little League, FFA, 4 H, recreation programs, and local groups. Blosser attended the ceremony to receive the plaque.
