Tru Kut Closure Ends Elkton Woodworking Era
Tru Kut doors on Camden Street in Elkton shut after six years of losses and failed bank payments. Co owners Mike and Tony Kitta started in 1979 and built a $2–3 million equipment footprint but could not fulfill orders as profits collapsed. Bank action and a Friday auction loom as 11 workers lose their jobs and a local worker finds a new Cargill position.

Elkton’s business landscape shows ongoing change with 51 closures since 2005, 20 ownership changes, and 16 openings or expansions. Some closures stem from retirement, relocation, rent hikes, or staff losses, while others become successful with new ownership. About 150 businesses hold licenses, and a town recognition program is under discussion as Readmore indicates mixed outcomes in a fragile economy.
