Field Day Returns With July Parade In Elkton
The 108th Field Day opens July 6 and runs through July 9 in Elkton. Grand marshal is Sara Robinson daughter of Randolph M Hobby and Jessie Robinson. Parade begins 11 a.m. Saturday on Gibbons Avenue winding along Fifth Street Spotswood Trail Spotswood Avenue and U S 340 to Blue Ridge Park. Golf carts may enter, as well as 4x4 pickups lifted or not. Lineup at 10 a.m. Call Margaretta Isom at 578 3989 for entries.

Elkton design award laureates win 1000 prize for novel antenna
Elkton resident Ted Boyd and Matthew Morgan of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory share a 1000 prize for a 10-100 GHz aluminum double ridged horn antenna. Morgan designed the device and Boyd built it, noting its claim as the first antenna to handle ten frequency bands for test and measurement uses. The NRAO has received commercial interest.

Bluegrass concerts slated in Grottoes this July
Eight Virginia bluegrass bands will perform Friday nights in July and August at Mountain View Park in Grottoes as part of Friday Night Bluegrass. Organized by Roger Randall in its third year, the series starts July 1 at 7 p.m. with Josh Grigsby and County Line of Warsaw. Bands include Page County Ramblers, The Deanes, Dark Hollow, Grit City Grass, Common Ground, Jollett Lane, and James River Cutups. Admission is free with a free will offering.

Elkton received a 750 grant from Keep Virginia Beautiful to beautify the town hall triangle at Spotswood Trail Spotswood Avenue and Rockingham Street and Elk Run Cemetery. The funds will fund plantings of dogwood trees shrubs roses and flowering plants amid past storm damaged shrubbery.
