Elkton Council mulls water and sewer fee increases

No residents spoke against proposed changes at a Monday public hearing on commercial water and sewer connection fees. The council, in a first reading, took no action as a vote is planned next month. Current $500 connection fee will rise to $1,000 or 125 percent of labor and materials, plus availability fees for linking to the waste treatment plant. The hikes fund upgrades to the plant, now under state compliance orders, tied to a four phase project begun in 2016 with $2.39 million in electrical work. Phase two adds two debris removing clarifiers.
