Rocky Bar church marks 100 years celebration
The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Rocky Bar reaches its centennial to be observed Saturday September six with the parish now named St Stephen and the Good Shepherd within Lynwood Parish Also part of the group is Grace Memorial Church on Ore Bank Road and the long serving rector The Rev Stuart Wood has led the churches for 24 years Native stones were used in building the church and earlier services met in a local schoolhouse under Rev Josiah Ellis of the Archdeaconry of the Blue Ridge. Eddie and Mary Breeden were noted in the record.

Bluegrass in Grottoes Moves to Town Hall
Bluegrass in Grottoes will host weekly performances at the town hall starting Sept. 11 after moving from the 105 6th Street old theater. Pineville resident Leon Ervin, 72, who helped form the group 17 years ago, noted the troupe’s early days at Bennie Cupps wrecking yard and its moves through a VFW building and an old theater. The relocation comes as a machine shop buys the theater from the Grottoes Volunteer Fire Dept.

Supreme Court rules for Breeden in railroad crossing case
After eight years Eddie Breeden won a Virginia Supreme Court decision 4-3 upholding a lower court ruling. Norfolk Southern sought 304,000 in fees and 100,000 for the Ditton settlement from Breeden’s suit over a private crossing near Elkton. The crossing reopened Aug 7.
