Interest grows in Shenandoah as the Virginia Avenue memorial adds names on brick displays. Councilman Richard Pierce notes 55 more veterans want inscriptions, with registration open to any U.S. service member, not limited to Shenandoah or Virginia.
Beaudette owner of Massanutten Financial Services Elkton received Augusts Business Appreciation Award from Elkton Downtown Revitalization Corporation and Elkton Town Council. Councilman Joshua Gooden announced the recognition and read a letter praising her for launching the business on Spotswood Trail and upgrading the 101 Warren Street location.
The Elkton Area Community Center hosted a Community Health Fair this past Saturday. Organized by Merck and Company, the event provided free tests and offered valuable health advice to attendees.
The Elkton Town Council held a Monday meeting amid public comments and criticisms before voting on key items. Neighborhood Watch Coordinator Haze Crider urged restoring a large town hall event calendar to avoid scheduling conflicts. Former councilman Lee Dearing criticized the cemetery commission as non functional with only three of seven members attending.
Mountain View 4-H Club youths led by Jacob and Riley Stepp along with sister Emalee won ten prizes at the Rockingham County Fair. They showed goats hogs chickens ducks and rabbits including a Lions Hedd rabbit owned by their sister eight year old Copper. The family bought a Bielfelder German chicken in April from a German company and showcased the rare breed at the event.
The Rockingham County Board of Supervisors granted a special use permit last Wednesday for a paintball arena and rock climbing facility to Terry Tee Withrow. The project would reuse the former Mick-or-Mack Supermarket building on South Main Street, near U.S. 33, with a new site at 55 McGahey Lane. Safety concerns previously blocked a closer option near Resort Drive.
