Town seeks public help to curb illegal sewer connections
Elkton officials urge homeowners and businesses to remove illegal sewer connections and sump pump drains to reduce infiltration and avoid costly plant upgrades. A 2011 town code allows entry to check connections, while the DEQ monitors violations and progress reports, with fines possible for noncompliance. Bear Lithia Water Bottling Through Elkton History
The Bear Lithia Spring near Elkton began bottling about 1884 with local on site operations and glass vessels. Water shipped to New York for bottling and eastern distribution, later renamed Bear Lithia Springs Co and then Virginia Bear Spring Water under A B Cover. The spring paused around 1930, bottles remain collectable and a 9 to 3 show is planned April 21 at Rockingham County Fairgrounds.
