In a backed dispute, Felder and Blease face off as factions clash over policy and authority. The governor’s position is challenged amid calls for restraint and constitutional adherence.
Governor Brown refused to honor South Carolina’s extradition papers for Atlanta attorney Thomas B. Felder on grounds the documents lacked affidavits of knowledge. Felder’s lawyers contended the papers were inadequate and the hearing highlighted disputes over the case and the McKee extradition process.
A dynamite blast in the Commonwealth Edison conduit in Chicago shattered windows for blocks and caused panic in several hotels. The detonation was heard five miles away. There were no casualties.
Senator B R Tillman authorized by Marion Institute head H C Murfee to recommend a worthy South Carolina boy for a $100 scholarship. Tillman will consider applications and review candidates.

In Atlantic City New Jersey Harry Adams a wealthy bath house owner lost his sight after seeing a bolt of lightning reflected in a mirror. He fell unconscious though untouched by the thunderbolt.
Cass Lake Minnesota mayor Dr T T Dumas, also owner of the Cass Lake baseball team, is arrested on charges of willful destruction of property. Detectives allege he led a gang planning robberies and arsons across Minnesota North Dakota and Wisconsin. Bond posted and Dumas claims police conspiracy.

Mrs Lea, wife of Tennessee Senator Luke Lea, received a blood transfusion from her husband on Sunday and showed definite improvement by Tuesday. Senator Lea, weakened by blood loss, could walk with assistance as both are in a Washington hospital.
A canoe on the Grand river near Eaton Rapids Michigan overturned after striking a snag. Victims Lela Stewart aged sixteen Lena Stewart fourteen and John Fernhall fourteen drowned. No witnesses. the boat was found downstream.
Two passengers died of cholera and one life lost at sea aboard the Duca Deglia pruzzi arriving from Mediterranean ports. The deaths were announced at the New York quarantine station.
