Jim Zondervan is named co pastor at the Christian Reformed Church while local high schools prepare to start regular season volleyball in southern Alberta.
The Tabor election will feature two mayoral candidates with incumbent Ray Bryant facing former mayor Dave Duggan. On council, five filed Monday including four incumbents Papp Rochelle Bekkering Sargeant and one newcomer Tams. three more filed Tuesday. Returning officer extended the filing period to six days after Monday’s deadline to avoid a vacant seat.
Roughly 150 residents attended Barnwell’s open house to tour the new water treatment plant. Officials say the $3.8 million upgrade offers far more capacity and room for growth, with expected regional options deemed not cost effective. Residents praised the project’s foresight and modern equipment.
Town officials and consultant Jonathan Huggett addressed the large price difference between EPCOR’s ASD bid and Associated Engineering’s traditional proposal. Huggett cited integrated team design, competition among ASD bidders, and balanced capital versus operating costs as key factors. Attendees remained skeptical and requested further justification from Associated Engineering. Mayor Ray Bryant emphasized plant design efficiency and long term performance.
Seven councillors for the M D of Tabor were acclaimed without an election. Don Johnson Greg Sekura Brian Brewin Ben Elfring Hank Van Beers Cecil Wiest and Dwight Tolton will represent Divisions 1 through 7. Derrick Krizsan said the seven will form the council prior to the organizational meeting and appoint reeve and deputy reeve.
