Freight rates spark debate at Taber forum
Wild Rose Agricultural Producers held a forum in Taber about a six percent freight rate hike by Canadian Pacific Railway. Lynn Jacobson, a Wild Rose director, said rates are reviewed every five years and the CPR must justify the increase to government. He cited car shortages, limited Canadian rail capacity, and 12 000 government cars on the rails with 1 200 in Saskatchewan and Alberta each plus 3 500 for the Wheat Board.
