Sugar beet tour reveals high yields and quality at Rogers plant
Growers and officials joined a Friday tour west of Taber to Rogers Sugar's beet fields and processing plant. Beets yield about 30 tonnes per acre with 18.5 percent sugar content, aided by irrigation, sun and careful farming. The factory processes about 6,200 tonnes of beets daily, producing 1,000 tonnes of sugar and beet pulp for cattle feed. water use dropped from 400,000 to 3,000 cubic metres per day since 1997.
