Indigenous film Little Deer screens at W.R. Myers High
Kiera Van Der Ploeg, co-star of the short film Little Deer, spoke to an audience at W R Myers High School on Monday about how the 2023 movie shaped her view of Indigenous culture. The film portrays two Indigenous girls escaping the Mohawk Institute Residential School in 1967. Volunteers served frybread and popcorn before the screening in the gym. Van Der Ploeg, a former Horizon School Division student, graduated from Vauxhall High School in 2023.

Coaldale man jailed after near-lethal standoff with cop
In Coaldale, Robert Lee Stetar, 62, faced a court for an eight month sentence stemming from an April 2 traffic stop. He threatened the officer with a knife, a screwdriver flew toward the officer, and a second officer deployed a Taser before Stetar was subdued and taken into custody.
