Cardinals elect Benedict XVI pope amid global reaction
World leaders and Catholics mark the election of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger as Pope Benedict XVI. The 78 year old, head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, is praised for fidelity to Christian teaching while facing scrutiny over his past with Hitler Youth and conservatism. Local priest Father Mariusz Sztuk praises sanctity and warns against media misperception as Catholics hope for a steadfast spiritual leader.
