Recycling centre’s 2009 results show lower tonnage and price drops
Trevour Hewitt of the Tabor Recycling Centre reported 2009 operations to the town council, noting a roughly 20 tonne decline in total tonnage, plunging cardboard prices from about 350 to 50, with newsprint steady and plastics rising. He warned non recyclable waste, like appliances, lawnmowers, are increasing, and urged changes in collection and incentives to boost participation. Mayor Ray Bryant and Coun. John Papp pressed for improved waste handling, stricter disposal, and alternative drop-off sites to raise volumes. Hewitt offered to collaborate if the town alters its pickup system and increases capacity.
