Alberta beet and potato growers weather impact outlook

Growers face rain and wind delays with beet replanting and soil moisture in southern Alberta. Beet roots may reach deep underground, while sun and warmer temperatures over the next week are hoped to dry fields and aid recovery. Potato planting struggled on heavy soils but most growers expect to recover, though waterlogged low spots threaten losses without better weather. Edzo Kok notes recent rains initially hindered planting but now conditions may be improving.
