The Vauxhall Academy of Baseball selected Les McTavish as its inaugural head coach for 2006 from about 60 applications. The Southern Alberta choice brings national-level coaching experience including Canadian Junior National pitching coach duties, Mariners scout work, and prior roles with Lethbridge Elks and Team Alberta.
On February 16 at 6 30 p m the Town of Taber invites sports associations user groups and residents to the white room at the Taber Community Centre for input on a proposed signage policy. The draft outlines guidelines for all town facilities and seeks broad participation.
St Pat’s Matt Perin won first and Shaun Courtoreille finished second at a regional spelling bee hosted by St. Mary’s. Students from St. Mary’s Taber St. Joseph’s Coaldale St. Paul’s and Assumption in Lethbridge competed as grade four to seven spellers.
A 20 year old Taber woman suffered serious head injuries and a 21 year old Enchant man minor injuries when a northbound truck ran a stop sign on a rural road and struck a westbound tractor trailer on Highway 3 east of Taber. The woman was airlifted to a Calgary hospital in critical but stable condition. Ruby Thiessen, driver of the pickup, faces impaired driving causing bodily harm and blood sampling refusal charges.
