Town lowers auditorium rate to twenty dollars per hour
Legion president Bruce Martin warns the cut will “kill us” as Tabor town council approves a flat 20 per hour rate for the community centre auditorium. Town manager Ken Mundy fears Rotary Youth Centre and other groups will be disadvantaged, prompting council pushback over leadership comments.

Taber Thrift Shop profits donated to four local groups
The Taber Thrift Shop closed after Taber Special Needs took over the building in December. The Taber and District Thrift Shop Society gave 16 100 to the health foundation, 10 350 to The Rock, 6 900 to Safe Haven, and 3 450 to the sportsfield society from final sales proceeds. Debbie Sargeant noted flexible use of the funds.

At the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association gathering in Phoenix Jan 28 31 Canadian producers signaled no rush to open the border until U S cattle crossing rules address blue tongue and anaplasmosis. U S imports closed last October over these diseases, not BSE, with calls to re-evaluate import standards.

Miracle cat rescued after frost bite in Huntley
A kitten named Miracle was freed from an ice chipper in Huntley with skin loss on one paw and several toenails damaged. Mary Kate may lose about an inch and a half of her frost-bitten tail. The cat is up for indoor adoption. call 223-5884.

Alberta recalls BSE licence plates over mad cow initials
About 1,000 plates bearing BSE were recalled after concerns the initials reference mad cow disease. 400 were released back. 600 remain on cars. Taber registry manager Cindy Kinniburgh notes recalls are too late for many and recalls may prompt more exchanges as objections spread. Government policy offers free replacements for offensive plates such as 666 or KKK.
