Christmas Shoeboxes Fall Short of 2002 in Taber Area
Last year more than 2 000 shoeboxes were turned in by Taber residents. This year donations are substantially down, with organizer Ron Levagood citing mad cow disease and shifting charity priorities to Afghanistan land mine relief and fire victims in nearby communities. One Taber school had not yet delivered boxes to Safeway, while care packages are set to depart for Calgary today.
