Taber Town Council has discontinued pursuit of city status after a survey and meetings showed residents prefer remaining a town. Mayor An drew Prokop noted 70 percent of 1,100 respondents opposed city status, with 27 percent for it and 3 percent neutral. council voted unanimously to nix the issue.
The Chin Expansion Project led by the St. Mary River Irrigation District includes a new Highway 36 bridge, an east dam, and reservoir restructuring. Full supply level rises about 2.6 metres to 864 metres, increasing surface area by 42 percent, expanding regional water storage.
Taber council's November 18 budget session details how tax dollars fund utilities engineering and public works FEM energy facilities recreation and fire services. Utilities cover water treatment distribution and waste collection with over 65 percent diversion from landfill. Budget notes show revenues around 10 million with expenses exceeding 9 million and staff costs over 2.1 million.
