Water in southern Alberta reservoirs is dropping with little rainfall expected. Oldman reservoir sits at 76 percent capacity, down from 85 to 94 percent typical. St Mary Reservoir at 71 percent, versus 76 to 92 percent normal. Waterton Reservoir remains within normal range at 84 percent.
Alberta unveils a multi phase effort to curb invasive zebra and quagga mussels. The plan enforces steep fines for trailer boats at open inspection stations and for bilge plug removal during transport. The province expanded inspection stations and launched an Aquatic Invasive Species Task Force as of July 24, with nine positive boats found among 5 500 inspected, all from outside Alberta.
Alberta Minister Matt Jones denounces Ottawa 70.8 million LMTA cut and pauses the Canada Alberta Job Grant for 2024-25. Manitoba and other provinces press federal ministers to restore 625 million in LMTA funds, warning of service reductions and widespread skills shortages across the country.
