Sugar beet talks push 2008 thin juice plans and acreage
Prolonged talks on a sugar beet contract reduced 2008 contracted beet acreage to about 25,000 with growers shifting to alternative crops. Rogers notes a return to normal in 2009 as costs rise and a win win contract is sought. Flexible Solutions renovates to produce aspartic acid via beet juice and 3 000 to 5 000 tonnes of sugar equivalent thin juice may be needed for the 2008 campaign. Thick juice marketing declines due to larger US crops.
